ABC has decided to takes its stride in the music business this fall with “Nashville,” a series in which the title city’s country music industry will be explored and exploited as a backdrop.

Critically acclaimed beautiful actress Connie Britton of the fame of Friday Night Lights, and American Horror Story will be starring in this drama as Rayna James, a former chart-topping singer whose career has hit a rough patch, until her label proposes a “co-headlining” tour with a young star, Hayden Panettiere, of the fame of “Heroes,” “Scream 4”). Think Taylor Swift, but without the humility.

This show will also work in politics as Rayna’s husband, whose role will be played by Eric Close, wants to run for mayor. Along with music and politics,

ABC will also offer a healthy dose of family drama between Rayna and her father, whose role will be played by Powers Boothe.

“Thelma and Louise” writer Callie Khouri created the series, and R.J. Cutler (“The September Issue”) directed the pilot.

“Nashville” will air at 10 p.m. ET Wednesdays on ABC.
