American Idol Got The Talent and Not Just The Drama

The most watched TV show in the U.S. “American Idol” boasts off its new talents now that the selection of the 24 finalists is near. Almost half of the contestants were already sent home during the elimination round. The wannabe popstars that stood out during the elimination were Haley Reinhard, Thia Megia, Clint Gambo, Ashton Jones and Kendra Chantelle. The quirky Ashley Sullivan and baritone Scott McCreery were surprised to still make it to the next round even if they both forgot their lyrics.
Some contestants who made it to the next round showed off their talents by playing musical instruments including Robbie Rosen and Julie Zorrilla on keyboards and Caleb Hawley and Brett Lowenstern on guitars.
One of the highlights of the show was Casey Abrams’s performance of the song “Georgia on My Mind” where he also played his stand-up bass. He got a standing ovation with his amazing performance. Another unforgettable performance was that of Jacob Lusk’s “God Bless The Child” which made the judges stand up and cheered for him.
The duet of Chris Medina and Carson Higgins singing the song “My Prerogative” by Bobby Brown was a stand out performance. Chris Medina wanted to prove that he can also sing since he is more famous for his story more than his singing. Crowd favorite 15-year-old Jacee Badeux also won the hearts of the audience with her performance.
There are a lot of talents emerging in season 10 of “American Idol”, but there are also a lot of sad stories revealed such as contestants with Tourette’s and Asperger’s syndromes and the heart-warming tale of Chris Medina who still showed her love for her fiancee who suffered brain injury caused by a car accident.
Producers should be more aware that the show might end up the joining the battle of the tear-jerkers for prime time TV and be compared to Maury Povich.
“American Idol"is not just a talent show because it also features the stories of some of the contestants including their personal tragedies which can influence the audience. Some fans called this the “Gokey” effect. This term came from season 8 contestant Danny Gokey who lost his wife due to congenital heart disease just a few weeks before he auditioned.
One of the contestants who got booted out during the season 8 of “American Idol”, Ju’Not Joyner agrees with this. He said that he feels bad about what happened to Danny Gokey, but thinks that it is not fair since he got more exposure than the other contestants. He feels that he did not get more love because he did not share his own sad story of an ill family member and being brought in foster homes.

Maybe you mean "duel" not "duet". Chris Medina and Carson Higgins and chose the same song for their solo, but they did not do it together, so they didn't have a duet.

I am crying every time I remember this because they eliminated Jacee Badeux. Not right.

I hate it when they do these sob stories just to get people to sympathize with some contestants. Not appealing.

I love Robbie Rosen. He sounds so good and he looks so courteous. Someone you'd like to bring home to mom.

I think I will have to agree with lowering the age limit to 15. There are some really good finds that are that young.

That Clint Jun Gamboa and Jordan Dorsey will be first to go if they don't adjust their attitudes.

The Chris Medina story definitely has the Gokey effect. Good thing he didn't go through.

Seriously, it is unfair to have someone qualify just because they have a sad background. It has to be about the talent.

I don't know why that had that Scott McCreery in and John Wayne out. Scotty McCreery is a one hit wonder.
