Cobie Smulders to Join the Cast of Avengers

Cobie Smulders is well known for her lead role in How I Met Your Mother and there are possibilities that she will clinch another major role to play Samuel L. Jackson’s female counterpart in the upcoming superhero movie The Avengers. Joss Whedon is directing the flick.

The role Smulders is expected to play is of Maria Hill, who is a SHIELD Agent. In the comic the Avengers, Maria Hill is the character of ruthless and professional executive director of SHIELD.

It is expected that Smulders will win the race for the job and the deal will be finalized pretty soon. She is competing with some well known actresses such as Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jessica Lucas and Baccarin for the role of Marry Hill.
The director Joss Whedon wanted to direct Cobie for the lead role of his failed venture, Wonder Woman film.

Speculations about Smulders winning the role gained strength when Jackson discussed about the cast on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He said that he would be testing five actresses who are going to face audition for the role of Nick Fury’s female counterpart in the Avengers.

According to resources, the film is set to be released on May 4, 2012. The cast of the Avengers include Robert Downey of the fame of Iron Man and Tony Star, Scarlett Johansson of Black Widow, Jeremy Renner of Hawkey, Mark Ruffalo of Bruce Banner and The Hulk, Chris Hemsworth of the fame of Thor and Chris Evans of Captain America.
