Jennifer Lopez Premieres New Music Video on “American Idol”

Being a judge of “American Idol” has its perks too. Famous Latina singer Jennifer Lopez premieres her latest music video entitled “On the Floor” on the famous talent show on the 3rd of March 2011. J. Lo’s new single “On the Floor” features Cuban-American rap artist Pitbull. The single reached number 40 on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart and number 26 on the Dance/Club Play Songs chart during the first week of its release.  This song was produced by The RedOne and is included in J.Lo’s seventh album entitled “Love?” which is set to be released on the 29th of March under Island Def Jam.
This event is nothing new to “American Idol” since former judges also premiered their songs and videos on this show including ex-Idol judge Paula Abdul with her video “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” in 2008 to current judge Randy Jackson’s album ”Music Club: Volume 1”. The song of Paula Abdul sold more than 32,000 copies during the first week of its release and increased up to 35,000 copies after a week it premiered on “American Idol”. The song did not do well on the radio having ranked 62 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Jennifer Lopez is known to make big hits and impressive music sales. The new album “On the Floor” is hoping to get better exposure and sales than her last album “Brave” which was released in 2007. Her 2007 album failed to chart any singles in the top 30 of Billboard’s Hot 100 charts and only sold around 650,000 copies worldwide. This album did not do that well compared to her previous albums, which sold more than millions worldwide including her 2001 album “J.Lo” which sold more than eight million copies worldwide.
Becoming the new “American Idol” judge could help improve J.Lo’s music career because she was seen as a positive and does not criticize the contestants that much. But in recent episodes, she has finally spoken up, but still showed her soft side when the crowd favorite Chris Medina was eliminated.
WHFN’s program director R. Reitz of New Bedford, Massachussettes said that the carrier single of J.Lo’s latest album “On the Floor” could be a big hit when they first listening to the song. Reitz said that this is the perfect song for J.Lo because her voice sounded great and rapper Pitbull complimented her voice. He added that this single was already a hit in their station and knows that J.Lo can release more hits in the future.

Good luck to her. Using Idol as a springboard for a single didn't really help Paula Abdul.

JLo should just go back to acting. JLo as a host is OK. But as a singer, nah.

If she has this song with some rapper like Pitbull, then it might just work.

The sales may be good, but radio has to play it. She should take her cue from Paula.
