The Oscars Welcomes Banksy, but Will He Show Up?

People have been wondering if controversial British street artist would be showing up at the Oscar Awards on Sunday, February 27. This has been the buzz since the Oscars revealed its nominations last month. The motion picture academy said that the elusive graffiti artist is welcome to attend the show, but will he come?
Banksy whose real identity is still unknown is nominated for best documentary entitled “Exit Through the Gift Shop”, which he also directed. Banksy is in his 30s and started out making his name in the underground scene in Bristol doing collaborations with British artists and musicians. He prefers hiding his face that’s why people speculate that he won’t be attending the Oscars and reveal his identity to more than half a billion viewers all over the world during the Awarding Night.
Even in his own film, the only thing that can be seen of him is his silhouette wearing a hoodie and voice altered so no one would recognize him. The publicists of his movie and even Banksy refuse to comment if he would be attending the Oscars or not, but the Academy said that they would be pleased to see him.
In a recent interview with Bruce Davis (Oscars executive director), he said that Banksy and his team were keeping quiet about things and remain mysterious. Davis added that they are expecting Jaimie D’Cruz (producer of “Exit Through the Gift Shop”) to join them, but it won’t come as a surprise if Banksy would be seen in the audience since he is sure he won’t be wearing any name tag.
There were reports that Banksy is already in Los Angeles because they have seen some of his works all over town. Spotted was a graffiti image of famous Disney character Mickey and Minnie Mouse having a drink and smoke with a sexy dancer on the Las Vegas Nightclub Light billboard. CBS owns that billboard and removed the image saying that it does not suit their standards.
There were rumors that the Academy asked Banksy to stay away to avoid causing any disruption to its elegant ceremony, but Davis said that was not true. He added that he wants to have the nominees present at the awards night. He admitted that Banksy’s secrecy have caused them problems because they want to know to whom they are giving the Oscars to, but they can handle that issue if ever Banksy’s film would win.

Banksy may come to the Oscars and bring Charlie Sheen as a date. That would be a riot!

The documentary's great and I think Banksy's art is genius but I think the OScars are not his scene really.

The Oscar poducers may not have a problem with him, but I highly doubt the advertisers will be thrilled.

The power of Banksy's artistry is reliant his mysterious identity. His art might suffer and become diluted is he comes out.

It would be exciting to see this guy finally coming out in public. But then he won't be mysterious anymore.

Exit Through the Gift Shop in my opinion was one of the best last year. I think it merits recognition.

Wow at least there's some buzz about an Oscar category that's not really talked about.
