Tyler Perry to Produce third TV series for Turner BroadcastingThursday, April 28, 2011
Tyler Perry has been ordered to produce a new television series for Turner Broadcasting. It would be his third series in succession for TBS. This time, Tyler has decided to change the format to a single-camera comedy drama that has been titled as “For Better or Worse.” TBS gained huge success with Perry’s multi-camera and multi-generation family sitcoms; “Meet the Browns,” which was premiered two years ago and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne,” which is going to end after a long run of 222 episodes. His new single-camera comedy is based on Perry’s film series “Why Did I Get Married?” The storyline of the comedy series revolves round three married couples. Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith and Rick Fox are going to star in the new show. TBS has already ordered 10 episodes of the new comedy series from a division off Lionsgate namely Debmar-Mercury. The production of this new series is scheduled to start this summer and it is expected to be aired in late fall. Debmar-Mercury and Perry are in working relationship with TBS since last five years. In 2006, Debmar-Mercury was appointed to produce 10 episodes of Perry’s “House of Payne.” In a statement, Perry said, “Even though it will be sad to say goodbye to “House of Payne,” which has taught me so much about what it takes to make a successful television series, I’m really looking forward to exploring new territory with ‘For Better or Worse.’”
